The nature scenery of Hamilton County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. This is the only paddling stretch along Indian River. The Abanakee Dam to Hudson River section of Indian River in Hamilton County is 2.5 miles long and is     rated by American Whitewater as a class II-V section. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. The beauty of the Adirondack Mountains is a great plus for this river. This is a bit of a short stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Indian River commonly tend to be in the 70's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 20's; after the sun is down   through the wintertime temperatures at Indian River descend into the 0's. Indian River is a good place of typical rain; the month with most of the rain is August; the driest month is February.
