The Abanakee Dam to Hudson River section of Indian River in New York is 2.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-V section. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New York are often tougher than in other states, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. Whitewater paddling here in the Adirondack Mountains is a great experience. Getting a good workout     and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. This section is quite short so better bring some good walking shoes. Indian River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Abanakee Dam to Hudson River section is the only one. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
