New York whitewater - Kaaterskill Creek, Ulster County Ulster county, Along Route 23A to lower Kaaterskill Creek section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS IV-V(V+)     3 miles   This stretch of Kaaterskill Creek in Ulster County is 3 miles long and is a class IV-V(V+) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The wonderful New York scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The Along Route 23A to lower Kaaterskill Creek section is the only paddling section along Kaaterskill Creek. The campgrounds here at Kaaterskill Creek are pretty good. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night,     but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This section is quite short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy.
