New York whitewater - Kinderhook Creek, Columbia County Columbia county, Valatie to Stockport section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-V     11 miles   There is a lot to run on the Kinderhook above Valatie.  In fact, it can be run all the way from above E. Nassau.  At E. Nassau, a nice boulder garden class II-III proceeds, with water attractions all the way to Valatie.  Getting out at Valatie is difficult but necessary before the dam. Says Stu Summer There are two impassable waterfalls 60 plus feet high about two miles south of the Valatie water fall. There is no viable way around these falls without climbing down steep cliffs. We stopped about a half mile above the two stuyvesant falls. My     understanding is there are old mill dams before you get to stockport. Somebody gave you really bad dangerous info. Says The put-in location is a short drive from Hudson, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The nature scenery of Columbia County and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This stretch of Kinderhook Creek is 11 miles long and is a class I-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. Great exercise and a chance   to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is the only paddling section along Kinderhook Creek. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. Summer at Kinderhook Creek arrives with high temperatures in the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 50's.
