Whitewater rafting and kayaking in New York is often more difficult than elsewhere, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The starting point is not too far from Glens Falls, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are many good hotels to choose from, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This section of La Chute River is 3.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-V+ section of whitewater. Since you're on this site you
are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The beauty of the Adirondack Mountains is a great plus for this river. The scenic beauty of Essex County
and the water flowing gracefully down La Chute River make the trip here worthwhile. The Lake George to Lake Champlain section is the only paddling section along La Chute River. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. This is a bit of a short stretch so no need to bring snacks.
Briefly about the general area: Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Adirondack Mountains. The yearly rain here at La Chute River is about average; August is when you get the most rain here,
and the driest month is January. Summertime at La Chute River comes with high temperatures in the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to La Chute River. Cold Spring is a pretty place to check out while you're at La Chute River, and Mossy Point is close at hand and always fine to stop at.
