New York whitewater - Little River, Adirondack Mountains, St. Lawrence County St. Lawrence county, Aldrich to Oswegatchie section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     6.2 miles   The Aldrich to Oswegatchie stretch of Little River in New York is 6.2 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Ogdensburg-Massena, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The wonderful St. Lawrence County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Little River will make you feel great. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but     do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Little River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Aldrich to Oswegatchie stretch is the only one. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in New York is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The beauty of the Adirondack Mountains is a great plus for this river. Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Little River all through the warm days of summer are in the 70's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 50's.   The wintertime brings highs down to the 20's; after the sun is down all through the winter temperatures at Little River dip into the 0's. The amount of precipitation that falls at Little River is close to the national average; during August this area sees the most rain, and the driest month is February.
