CLASS III-IV 2.5 miles
The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Plattsburgh, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The scenic beauty of Clinton/ Essex County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. The Route 17 TO West Branch Ausable River section is the only paddling section along Little Black Brook. This stretch of Little Black Brook in New York is 2.5 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The beautiful Adirondack
Mountains scenery is an added bonus. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good rivers for that around here. Whitewater rafting
and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. This is a bit of a short stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
