The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The Route 17 TO West Branch Ausable River stretch of Little Black Brook is 2.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you     glad you came. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The river winds through the Adirondack Mountains and you get great scenery. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. The Route 17 TO West Branch Ausable River stretch is the only paddling stretch along Little Black Brook. This is a short paddling stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Plattsburgh, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Briefly about the general area: Summertime brings highs in the 70's to Little Black Brook.   Summer nighttime lows fall down to the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 20's, and overnight lows at Little Black Brook through the wintertime mostly sink into the 0's. Little Black Brook gets a common amount of rain; the wettest month of the year is generally August, that's the one that rains the most, and February is the month with the least moisture.
