If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The Hughes Road to Black River stretch of Little Black Creek is 5.5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-V section by American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Herkimer/ Oneida County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem
but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. If you're coming
from Utica-Rome it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling spots. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. The Adirondack Mountains scenery is wonderful. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Hughes Road to Black River stretch is one of them.

There are great sites to discover along the Stone Dam Trail, and you can go for a hike on the Forty Mountain Trail. If you want a pleasant time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Adirondack Mountains. Little Black Creek gets lots of water; the month with most of the
rain is September, and February meanwhile is the driest month. Throughout the long summer days here at Little Black Creek, high temperatures typically get into the 70's with overnight lows in the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 20's, and overnight lows at Little Black Creek all through the winter regularly fall into the 0's.
