This section of Mettawee River is 12 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-V section of whitewater. The nature scenery of Washington County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The campgrounds here at Mettawee River are pretty good. Mettawee River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Raceville to Grays Corner section is the only one. If you have the time you can make this a two
day trip, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots
for that. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Glens Falls, as you can see on the road map further down.
Briefly about the general area: During the warm days of summer at Mettawee River highs are usually in the 80's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 20's, and night lows at Mettawee River during the wintertime ordinarily plunge into the 0's. From a rainfall point of view Mettawee River is a reasonably normal location; the wettest month of the year is ordinarily August, that's the one that rains the most; the driest of the months is February.
