The Raceville to Grays Corner stretch of Mettawee River in New York is 12 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-V section. The wonderful New York scenery and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. The starting point is not too far from Glens Falls, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. A good workout and just being out on the river for a
while are great attractions for lots of people. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because
these hotels fill up quick. Mettawee River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Raceville to Grays Corner section is the only one. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: The yearly rainfall here at Mettawee River is about average; through August this area sees the most rain, and February is when it's the driest. Throughout the summertime, highs ordinarily are in the 80's at Mettawee River, and the nighttime is fairly chillier of course, generally in the 50's. All through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 20's; after the sun is down all through the wintertime temperatures at Mettawee River drop into the 0's.
