CLASS I-V     12 miles
  The put-in is not too far from Glens Falls, as you can see on the road map further down. The nature scenery of New York and the playfulness of the water beats anything. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in New York are harder than the national norm, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. This section of Mettawee River in New York is 12 miles long and has been rated as a
    class I-V section by American Whitewater. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people.
There arenít any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you donít have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camping stuff. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. This river system has a few good paddling stretches  
and the Raceville to Grays Corner section is one of them.

Briefly about the general area:
Lake St. Catherine State Park is a pretty spot any time of year; there is a good hiking trail nearby called the Glen Lake Trail. Lots of folks from Middle Granville come to Mettawee River, and places like Bomoseen State Park are delightful to take a look at. This river is so good. Going for a hike on the Bomoseen Hiking Loop is always a fine adventure. Summertime at Mettawee River comes with high temperatures in the 80's. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures plunge down into the 50's.
