The nature scenery of Essex County and the playfulness of the water beats anything. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside New York you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The beauty of the Adirondack Mountains is a great plus for this river. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Getting
a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. This stretch of Mill Creek in New York is 5 miles long and
it is classified as a class IV-V+ section by American Whitewater. This is the only paddling section along Mill Creek. There's camping available near Mill Creek. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon.
Briefly about the general area: Mill Creek is a good spot of typical rain; during August this area sees the most rain; February on the other hand is the driest. Summer brings highs in the 70's to Mill Creek. Summer overnight lows descend down to the 50's. For the duration of the winter the highs are ordinarily in the 20's while Mill Creek nighttime low temperatures throughout the wintertime are in the 0's.
