New York whitewater - Mill Creek, Lewis County Lewis county, West Lowville to Lowville section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS V     4 miles   The wonderful Lewis County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. This stretch of Mill Creek is 4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class V section. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might     end up sleeping in your car. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. The starting location is a short drive from Watertown-Fort Drum, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Mill Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the West Lowville to Lowville stretch is the only one. Briefly about the general area: A typical amount of precipitation falls here at Mill Creek; the month with most of the rain is November, and February on the other hand is the driest.   At Mill Creek through the warm months highs are in the 80's. Throughout the moonlight hours it's commonly in the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 20's, and during the dark hours in the wintertime at Mill Creek temperatures sink to the 0's.
