The natural beauty of Oneida County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time     outdoors are great reasons to come. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. Mohawk River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the West Branch to Hillside stretch is the only one. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Utica-Rome, as you can see on the road map further down. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable.
