The natural beauty of New York and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. The Rio Dam to Delaware River section is the only paddling section along Mongaup River. You might have     to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. This section of Mongaup River is 2.9 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. Briefly about the general area: There's glorious hiking along the Peenpack Trail, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Mongaup River; Lost Cabin Trail is a good local trail. Throughout the warmest time of the year here at Mongaup River, high temperatures regularly reach the 70's. Summer night lows drop down to the 50's. Highs through the wintertime are regularly in the 20's, and night lows in the 10's for Mongaup River.
