New York whitewater - Moose River, Oneida/ Lewis County
Oneida/ Lewis
county,
Rock Island to Fowlersville section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS IV 9 miles
The Rock Island to Fowlersville stretch of Moose River is 9 miles long and is a class IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The average New York whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The nature scenery of New York and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are
reasons enough to come here and paddle. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's perfect for a one day trip. There are campgrounds quite near the river where
you can camp. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. If you're coming from Utica-Rome it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places.
