The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Utica-Rome, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't
forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. On this section you do get some distance,
you can easily run it on an afternoon. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. The wonderful New York scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here
worthwhile. The Rock Island to Fowlersville stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system.
