Whitewater rafting and kayaking in New York is often more difficult than elsewhere, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Oakland Valley to US Route 209 stretch is just one of them. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near.
