The starting point is not too far from Batavia, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The nature scenery of Genesee/Monroe County and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. The Leroy to Fort Hill stretch of Oatka Creek in New York is 3 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in
a few times. The Leroy to Fort Hill section is the only paddling section along Oatka Creek. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. Some
people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a pretty small number of paddling spots. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Oatka Creek mostly tend to be in the 80's. Throughout the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 50's. All through the winter highs are in the 30's while Oatka Creek night low temperatures throughout the winter are in the 10's. An average amount of rain falls at Oatka Creek; the month with most of the rain is August, and January is the month with the least moisture. A tour to Buttermilk Falls will fill your soul with splendid feelings.
