New York whitewater - Oatka Creek, Genesee/Monroe County Genesee/Monroe county, Leroy to Fort Hill section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     3 miles   The scenic beauty of Genesee/Monroe County and the water flowing gracefully down Oatka Creek are reasons enough to come here and paddle. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The starting point is not too far from Batavia, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then     no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This stretch of Oatka Creek in New York is 3 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. This is the only paddling stretch along Oatka Creek. This is a bit of a short stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you won't find many other paddling places. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Briefly about the general area: Summer brings highs in the 80's to Oatka Creek; through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 30's with temperatures at Oatka Creek dipping down into the 10's during winter nights. It's always glorious to explore   Buttermilk Falls. Oatka Creek gets a common amount of rain; August is the wettest month with most rain; January is when it's the driest.
