This section of Putnam Creek in Essex County is 5.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V+ section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in New York is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. This is the only paddling section along Putnam Creek. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers.     The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The campgrounds here at Putnam Creek are pretty good. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. The river winds through the Adirondack Mountains and you get great scenery. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. If you're coming from Glens Falls it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. Through the winter this place gets highs in the 20's with temperatures at Putnam   Creek dipping down into the 0's throughout winter nights.
