New York whitewater - Raquette River, Adirondack Mountains, Hamilton County Hamilton county, Forked Lake Campground to Deerland section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     4.5 miles   The nature scenery of Hamilton County and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. The Forked Lake Campground to Deerland stretch of Raquette River in Hamilton County is 4.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in New York are harder than the national norm, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. There are a few     other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The beautiful Adirondack Mountains scenery is an added bonus. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of spots for that. Briefly about the general area: At Raquette River through the summer highs are in the 70's with night lows in the 50's. All through the winter highs are in the 20's, and through the dark hours in the winter at Raquette River temperatures plunge to the 0's. Raquette River frequently gets lots of rain;   the wettest month of the year is commonly August, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest month is February.
