The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New York are often tougher than in other states, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The natural beauty of Hamilton County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels
fill up quick. The beauty of the Adirondack Mountains is a great plus for this river. This is the only paddling stretch along Rock River. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. The Lake Durant to Cedar River section of Rock
River in New York is 5 miles long and has been rated as a class II-V section by American Whitewater. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come.
Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Rock River during the days of summer are in the 70's while night lows are generally in the 50's. All through the winter this place gets highs in the 20's; during the dark hours in the winter at Rock River temperatures sink to the 0's. Going for a hike along the Northville Lake Placid Trail will let you absorb
the natural beauty of this area. The annual precipitation here at Rock River is about average; August is when you get the most rain here; February on the other hand is the driest.
