This section of Rock River is 5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-V section. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. Rock River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Lake Durant to Cedar River stretch is the only one. The scenic beauty of New York and the water flowing gracefully down Rock River attract people from near and far. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The rivers
for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New York are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive
a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. The beauty of the Adirondack Mountains is a great plus for this river.
Briefly about the general area: The Northville Lake Placid Trail is a magnificent hiking trail near Rock River. Rock River is a good place of common rain; the wettest month of the year is typically August, that's the one that rains the most while February is generally the driest month.
At Rock River through the long summer days highs are in the 70's. During the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 50's. Highs all through the winter are regularly in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Rock River.
