Hey, for anyone interested in kyaking or Canoeing down the Ro-Jan Kill beware: There are many downed trees, which in an instant could pin you down and end your life. No one maintains this water way, and in many sections you will be forced by naturally occurring dams to get out of your canoe, or kyak and walk you and your vessel down stream through thickets of nettle. Personally I completed a trip down this beautiful stream unaware of the many deadly stimuli. So if in the near future you plan to

and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-III section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in New York is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Hudson, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The campgrounds here at Roeliff Jansen Kill River are pretty good. No need to look hard for hotels, but
you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The Ancram to Elizaville section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here.
