This stretch of Rondout Creek in New York is 8.5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Ulster/ Sullivan County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The put-in is not too far from Kingston, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There's camping available near Rondout Creek. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. This
stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. The river winds through the Catskill Mountains and you get great scenery. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside New York you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so better not forget
that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. There are many good hotels to choose from, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Buttermilk Falls Brook to Rondout stretch is one of them.

Rondout Creek gets a lot of water; of all the months in a year November is the one with the most rain; February on the other hand is the driest.
