The starting location is a short drive from Kingston, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The natural beauty of Ulster County and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. There are many good hotels to choose from, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in
your car. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. Whether
you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. This section of Rondout Creek in Ulster County is 5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-V+ section. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon.
Briefly about the general area: All through the warm days of summer at Rondout Creek highs are commonly in the 70's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs
in the 20's, and after the sun is down throughout the winter temperatures at Rondout Creek drop into the 10's. Lots of precipitation falls at Rondout Creek; May is when you get the most rain here; February on the other hand is the driest.
