The beautiful scenery of Ulster County and the water flowing gracefully down Rondout Creek will make you feel great. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in New York are harder than the national norm, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The starting location is a short drive from Kingston, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This stretch of Rondout Creek is 5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-V+ section. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect
for a one day trip. There are some good hotels near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area
with plenty of spots for that. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Lackawack to US 209 section is one of them.
