The nature scenery of New York and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. This stretch of Sacandaga River in Hamilton County is 7.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-V+ section. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this
state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or
kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. The Adirondack Mountains scenery is wonderful. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The starting location is a short drive from Gloversville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.
Briefly about the general area: Sacandaga River gets a common amount of annual rain; the month with most of the rain is August, and the driest month is February. At Sacandaga River through the warmest time of the year highs are in the 70's. Once the sun
is down it falls down to the 50's. High temperatures during the winter are normally in the 20's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at Sacandaga River. If the weather is good here at Sacandaga River, you can go for a hike along the Hamilton Mountain Fire Tower Trail.
