The Christine Falls to East Branch section of Sacandaga River is 7.5 miles long and it is classified as a class III-V+ section by American Whitewater. The average New York whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling spots. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon. If you're a camper you can camp at
one of the great campgrounds nearby. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. The beautiful Adirondack Mountains scenery is an added bonus. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better
reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. The wonderful New York scenery and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Gloversville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.
