The scenic beauty of New York and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New York are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The starting point is not too far from Gloversville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This section of Sacandaga River is 13 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II section
of whitewater. When you're paddling down a Adirondack Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these
hotels fill up quick. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your camp stove. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the East Branch to Hope stretch is just one of many. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. There's camping available near Sacandaga River. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places.
