The scenic beauty of Hamilton County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch of Sacandaga River - West Branch is 9.2 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V+ section of whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The beautiful Adirondack Mountains scenery is an added bonus. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this
area has a large number of paddling spots. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Arietta - Piseco to Whitehouse section is just one of many. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in New York
is often more difficult than elsewhere, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. The campgrounds here at Sacandaga River - West Branch are pretty good. If you're coming from Gloversville it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down.
