  If you're coming from Syracuse it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. The nature scenery of New York and the playfulness of the water beats anything. This stretch is short so better bring some good walking shoes. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside New York you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area
    has a large number of paddling rivers. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. There's camping available near Salmon
River.

Briefly about the general area:
Don't leave Salmon River without first paying a visit to Salmon River Falls. Salmon River generally gets a lot of rain; the month with most of the rain is November, and the driest month is March.
At Salmon River through the long summer days highs are in the 70's while overnight lows are frequently in the 50's. High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in the 20's with temperatures at Salmon River dipping down into the 0's during winter nights.
