New York whitewater, Salmon River

Oswego Lewis county, Route 2A to Black Hole through Pulaski section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-III     3.9 miles
This stretch of Salmon River in Oswego/ Lewis County is 3.9 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-III section. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Syracuse, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. The nature scenery of New York and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons
enough to come here to paddle. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. The campgrounds here at Salmon River are pretty good. The average New York whitewater
rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. A bit of exercise and
spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near.

Briefly about the general area:
You should definitely take a look at delightful Southwick Beach while you're here at Salmon River. Selkirk Shores State Park is a magnificent spot to check out on a wonderful day, and Salmon River is not far at all from Pulaski. At this river you will always have a good time. If you want to hit the beach, El Dorado Beach is in the neighborhood, and you beyond doubt should pop by Southwick Beach State Park if you're here. At Salmon River through the warm days of summer highs are in the 70's.
