This stretch of Salmon River in Oswego/ Lewis County is 3.9 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-III section of whitewater. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. The put-in location is a short drive from Syracuse, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This is a short paddling stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend     hours on the river in one stretch. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Briefly about the general area: Salmon River is a good place of normal precipitation; the wettest month of the year is usually November, that's the one that rains the most, and July is when it's the driest. Throughout the summer months, highs ordinarily are in the 70's at Salmon River with overnight   lows in the 60's.
