The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. This stretch of Salmon River is 0.5 miles long and has been rated as a class V+ section by American Whitewater. The natural beauty of Franklin County and the cool fresh water have people coming here. This stretch is very short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. When
you're paddling down a Adirondack Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up
quick. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Chasm Falls section is one of them. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Malone, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good rivers for that around here.

to check out Needles Eye while you're here at Salmon River; a cool spot to take a look at is The Bend. Lots of rainfall falls at Salmon River; August is the wettest month with most rain; the driest of the months is February. What would winter be without some skiing at Titus
Mountain, and Franklin State Forest Number One is a perfect local forest. For the period of the warm months here at Salmon River, high temperatures generally get into the 70's, and through the night it cools down to the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Salmon River.
