This section of Salmon River in New York is 0.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class V+ section. The put-in is not too far from Malone, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. This is an extremely short stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations
you might end up sleeping in your car. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The scenic beauty of New York and the water flowing gracefully down Salmon River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors
have people coming from far and near. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. The Adirondack Mountains scenery is wonderful. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving.

Daytime highs all through the wintertime are in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Salmon River. All the water falling down from the sky makes Salmon River a wet site; the wettest month of the year is regularly August, that's the one that rains the most; February
on the other hand is the driest. This is such a great river. There's a brilliant forest next to Salmon River called Franklin State Forest Number One; if you like skiing, you're in luck; Titus Mountain is pretty near. There's no way someone can get bored here in the Adirondack
Mountains. If you're interested in cool geologic traits, try The Bend, and Needles Eye is a magnificent spot to explore while in the vicinity.
