The Chasm Falls to Westville Center section of Salmon River in Franklin County is 20 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The wonderful Franklin County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The starting location is a short drive from Malone, if you're
not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. No shortage of good hotels, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You might be into
whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good places. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your camp stove too.
Briefly about the general area: Hit the slopes at Titus Mountain in the neighborhood. All through the summer months here at Salmon River, high temperatures mostly reach the 80's while night lows are ordinarily in the 50's. High temperatures
during the winter are normally in the 20's; nighttime lows in the 0's for Salmon River. From a rain point of view Salmon River is a quite typical site; the month with most of the rain is August, and February meanwhile is the driest month.
