Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in New York are harder than the national norm, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Ithaca, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. No matter if     you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. This section is quite short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The wonderful New York scenery and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. The campgrounds here at Salmon Creek are pretty good. Briefly about the general area: Through the summer at Salmon Creek temperatures are generally in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 50's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 30's, and night lows at Salmon Creek through the winter generally plunge into the 10's. Taking a little trip to nearby Myers Point is a magnificent idea;   a magnificent place to take a look at is The Gulf. Salmon Creek gets a normal amount of annual rainfall; the month of June is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month of the year is February.
