The average New York whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The Falls below Mountain Dale to Old 20 section is the only paddling section along Sandburg Creek. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end     up sleeping in your car. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. The starting point is not too far from Kingston, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.
