New York whitewater, Sandy Creek

Jefferson county, US Route 11 to Lake Ontario section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

The natural beauty of New York and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New York are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. You can enjoy
this section more if you take your time, so pack your camp stove. The campgrounds here at Sandy Creek are pretty good. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if
you donít have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Watertown-Fort Drum, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people.

Briefly about the general area:
Places like Westcott Beach State Park are good to check out; there are plenty of people from Mannsville

here. Southwick Beach State Park is a wonderful site any time of year; Southwick Beach is pretty nearby if you're in a beach type of mood. This is such a wonderful river. Enjoy a lazy day on the beach at El Dorado Beach. Sandy Creek gets a typical amount of yearly rain. November is the wettest month with most rain; July meanwhile is the driest month. High temperatures at Sandy Creek through the warmest time of the year are in the 70's, and all through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. High temperatures throughout the wintertime are normally in the 20's, and after the sun is down all through the winter temperatures at Sandy Creek drop into the 0's.
