The wonderful New York scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch of Saranac River in New York is 4 miles long and is according to American     Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. The campgrounds here at Saranac River are pretty good. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. The beautiful Adirondack Mountains scenery is an added bonus. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. Briefly about the general area: Through the days of summer here at Saranac River, high temperatures frequently get into the 70's while overnight lows are   regularly in the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 20's with temperatures at Saranac River dipping down into the 0's during winter nights. If you want a good time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Adirondack Mountains. A good deal of rain falls at Saranac River; August is when you get the most rain here; the driest month of the year is February. The Silver Lake Mountain Trail offers hiking at its best, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Schwartz Trail.
