  The average New York whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. This stretch of Saranac River in New York is 7 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-V section. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
    The scenic beauty of New York and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. The beautiful Adirondack Mountains scenery is an added bonus. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature
will make you glad you came. There's camping available near Saranac River. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Silver Lake Road to Redford section is just one of many. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. If you're coming from Plattsburgh it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. No matter if  
you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling spots.

Briefly about the general area:
The Whiteface Mountain-Whiteface Mt. Mem. Highway is a tremendous hiking trail near Saranac River, and Saranac River is not far at all from Saranac. So much amusing stuff to do here in the Adirondack Mountains, too good to be true. If you like skiing, you're in luck; Whiteface Mountain is in close proximity to Saranac River. If the weather is perfect here at Saranac River, you can go for a hike along the Silver Lake Mountain Trail. A lot of precipitation falls at Saranac River.
