If you're coming from Plattsburgh it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's perfect for a one day trip. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. You can pitch a tent or     park your RV at a nearby campground. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. The natural beauty of New York and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This stretch of Saranac River in Clinton County is 7 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-V section. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. The beauty of the Adirondack Mountains is a great plus for this river. Briefly about the general area: The warmest time of the year at Saranac River comes with high temperatures in the 70's with overnight lows in the 50's. For the period of the   winter the highs are usually in the 20's; during the dark hours in the winter at Saranac River temperatures drop to the 0's. Take a hike on the Silver Lake Mountain Trail. Saranac River gets much water; the month with most of the rain is August, and February on the other hand is the driest.
