Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The nature scenery of New York and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. The Adirondack Mountains scenery is wonderful. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. The Foot of Kent Falls to Lake Champlain section of Saranac River in Clinton County is 12.5 miles long and is
rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. The campgrounds here at Saranac River are pretty good. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. If you're coming from Plattsburgh it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location,
if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The Foot of Kent Falls to Lake Champlain stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your camping stuff too. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.

temperatures fall down into the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 20's, and night lows at Saranac River through the winter typically fall into the 0's. Saranac River gets a normal amount of rain; August is the wettest month with most rain; the driest of the months is February.
