If you're coming from Kingston it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. The Below Reservoir #2 to Reservoir #1 section of Saw Kill River in New York is 2.5 miles long and is a class II-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside New York you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. The nature scenery of Ulster County and the playfulness
of the water attract people from near and far. The river winds through the Catskill Mountains and you get great scenery. This is a somewhat short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches
in this river system, there are a few others too. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There's camping available near Saw Kill River. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here.
