The West Fowler to Matoon Creek stretch of Sawyer Creek in New York is 6 miles long and is a class I-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in New York are harder than the national norm, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. There are no other stretches to paddle along     Sawyer Creek than the West Fowler to Matoon Creek stretch. The beautiful scenery of St. Lawrence County and the water flowing gracefully down Sawyer Creek are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
