New York whitewater - Schoharie Creek, Schoharie/Montgomery County Schoharie/Montgomery county, Esperance to Fort Hunter section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-III     21 miles   Whitewater rafting and kayaking in New York is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The put-in location is a short drive from Gloversville, as you can see on the road map further down. This section of Schoharie Creek in Schoharie/Montgomery County is 21 miles long and has been rated as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance     because these hotels fill up quick. The nature scenery of New York and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camping stuff. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. Briefly about the general area: During the long summer days, highs commonly are in the 80's at Schoharie Creek. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 50's. During the winter highs are ordinarily in the 20's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at Schoharie Creek.
