The starting location is a short drive from Amsterdam, as you can see on the road map further down. The scenic beauty of New York and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. The campgrounds here at Schoharie Creek are pretty good. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations
in advance you're all set. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Whitewater paddling here in the Catskill Mountains is a great experience. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. A bit of
exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. This section of Schoharie Creek in Schoharie County is 3.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section.

is a tremendous time in the Catskill Mountains if you go for the outdoors. During the summertime highs here at Schoharie Creek reach the 70's. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's frequently in the 50's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 20's, and night lows
through the winter for Schoharie Creek tend to be in the 10's. Since you're here at Schoharie Creek why not take a look at Shew Hollow, and a short journey to Mine Kill Falls is always worthwhile.
