Whitewater rafting and kayaking in New York is often tougher than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in
advance you're all set. The beauty of the Catskill Mountains is a great plus for this river. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The nature scenery of Schoharie
County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places.
Briefly about the general area: All through the warm months here at Schoharie Creek, high temperatures mostly get into the 70's, and all through the night it cools
down to the 50's. Highs during the winter are ordinarily in the 20's; during the dark hours in the wintertime at Schoharie Creek temperatures plunge to the 10's. These mountains rock, just check out all the enjoyable stuff to do in the Catskill Mountains. Since you're here
at Schoharie Creek why not stop at Shew Hollow; Mine Kill Falls is a delightful local attraction. All the water falling down from the sky makes Schoharie Creek a wet site; June is when you get the most rain here, and February on the other hand is the driest.
