New York whitewater - Schoharie Creek, Catskill Mountains, Greene County
Greene
county,
Lexington to Prattsville section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-III 9 miles
Cam you get some stats on the Schoharie Creek from Blenhiem Bridge to Central Bridge ? My husband, friends and I have been kayaking that section for over 3 years. My husband and his friends were doing it in canoes prior to that. You can't do the whole thing in one day. It has to be broke up in sections. But it is so beautiful down through there. It's a mix of white water and calm water. The nature you encounter through there is you can't see everyday. Ever have an eagle fly not more then 10 feet away from you, or see a nest of ravens with the young
ones screaming for lunch ? Well those are just a few of the things we have seen. Also we've only encountered 1 canoe in the 3 years and they bailed by the rock cliffs in Blenhiem. Says Robin Macdonald
The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New York are
often more challenging than in other states, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Kingston, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This section of Schoharie Creek is 9 miles long and is a class I-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The nature scenery of New York and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem
but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. When you're paddling down a Catskill Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the
way too. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. This stretch is mid length,
you can easily run it on an afternoon.
