New York whitewater - Schroon River, Adirondack Mountains, Warren County Warren county, Warrensburg to Thurman Station section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     1 miles   The average New York whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. This stretch of Schroon River is 1 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The wonderful New York scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Not too many hotels     nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. Whitewater paddling here in the Adirondack Mountains is a great experience. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Warrensburg to Thurman Station section is one of them. This is a very short section so no need to bring snacks. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Glens Falls, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Briefly about the general area: From a rain point of view Schroon River is a pretty typical location;   the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain; January on the other hand is the driest. You can never get enough of the great skiing at Hickory Ski Center. Summer brings highs in the 70's to Schroon River; during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 20's, and nighttime lows in the 0's for Schroon River.
