  The starting location is a short drive from Watertown-Fort Drum, as you can see on the road map further down. The Route 95 to Route 11 section of South Sandy Creek in New York is 12 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in New York tend to be more challenging than the national average, so don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. Getting
    your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. This is
one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your camping stuff. The beautiful scenery of New York and the playfulness of the water have people coming here.

Briefly about the general area:
A good beach near South Sandy Creek is Gilmore Shore, and Mooney Gulf is a tremendous
 
spot to spend some time. Beaches are nice; and Southwick Beach next to South Sandy Creek is no exception; if you're stopping by from Mannsville, you won't be the only one. A river like this is too good to miss. Westcott Beach State Park is a fine place to stretch your legs a bit, and Dry Hill is a very popular ski area close at hand. Southwick Beach State Park is a stunning place any time of year. A typical amount of precipitation falls here at South Sandy Creek. Most of the rain falls throughout November; July is the month with the least moisture. At South Sandy Creek through the summertime months highs are in the 70's, and through the night it cools down to the 50's.
