This section of South Sandy Creek in Jefferson County is 12 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Jefferson County and the water flowing gracefully down South Sandy Creek attract people from near and far. The put-in is not too far from Watertown-Fort Drum, as you can see on the road map further down. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside New York you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very
forgiving. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your camp stove. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular
destination. There are no other sections to paddle along South Sandy Creek than the Route 95 to Route 11 section. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here.
