  The wonderful New York scenery and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Glens Falls, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The Below Smears Creek to Stony Creek stretch of Stony Creek
    in Warren County is 4.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-V section. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find
lots of paddling rivers. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. Whitewater paddling here in the Adirondack Mountains is a great experience.  
The average New York whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving.

Briefly about the general area:
Lots of folks from Stony Creek come to Stony Creek; why not take a refreshing hike along the Oregon Trail. Yeah, come up here to the Adirondack Mountains for a magnificent time. If you like skiing, you're in luck; Hickory Ski Center is close to Stony Creek. Stony Creek gets a common amount of annual rainfall. The wettest month of the year is mostly August, that's the one that rains the most; the driest of the months is February.
