CLASS II-III     4 miles
  The Roaring Branch to Hudson River stretch of Stony Creek is 4 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The starting point is not too far from Glens Falls, as you can see on the road map further down. The beautiful scenery of New York and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. A bit of
    exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so don't forget that many of
the sections here are not safe for beginners. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. When you're paddling down a Adirondack Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whether you're whitewater rafting  
or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon.

Briefly about the general area:
Stony Creek is not far at all from Athol, and Hickory Ski Center is a good local ski area. Be careful coming to the Adirondack Mountains, you might not ever want to return home again. High temperatures at Stony Creek throughout the summer months are in the 70's, and through the night it cools down to the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 20's, and during the dark hours in the wintertime at Stony Creek temperatures fall to the 0's.
