This section of Vly Creek in New York is 3.5 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New York are often tougher than in other states, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The river winds through the Catskill Mountains and you get great scenery. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The scenic
beauty of Delaware/ Greene County and the water flowing gracefully down Vly Creek make the trip here worthwhile. This is a somewhat short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. There are no other sections to paddle along Vly Creek than
the Elk Creek Road bridge to Lake Switzerland section. If you're coming from Kingston it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The campgrounds here at Vly Creek are pretty good. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers.

From a precipitation point of view Vly Creek is a quite common site; the month with most of the rain is May, and February is when it's the driest. At Vly Creek during the summertime highs are in the 70's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Highs during the winter are mostly in the 20's with temperatures at Vly Creek dipping down into the 0's all through winter nights.
