The nature scenery of Delaware/ Greene County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The average New York whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. The Elk Creek Road bridge to Lake Switzerland section of Vly Creek is 3.5 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. When you're paddling down a Catskill Mountains river like this one you always get
great scenery along the way too. This is the only paddling stretch along Vly Creek. This stretch is short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make
reservations in advance you're all set. There's camping available near Vly Creek. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. The starting point is not too far from Kingston, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.

throughout the summer highs are in the 70's. During the moonlight hours it's usually in the 50's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 20's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at Vly Creek. From a precipitation point of view Vly Creek is a reasonably normal site; throughout May this area sees the most rain, and February is when it's the driest.
