Elk Creek Road bridge to Lake Switzerland section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-III 3.5 miles
The Elk Creek Road bridge to Lake Switzerland section of Vly Creek in New York is 3.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. The average New York whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. The wonderful New York scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. A bit of exercise and a chance to
spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. This stretch is short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. The put-in location is a short drive from Kingston, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost.
Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. There are no other sections to paddle along Vly Creek than the Elk Creek Road bridge to Lake Switzerland section. The beautiful Catskill Mountains scenery is an added bonus.
