The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Kingston, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The natural beauty of New York and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The Walden to mouth section of Wallkill River in Orange/ Ulster County is 30 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. The Walden to mouth stretch is the only paddling stretch along Wallkill River. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. A stretch this long is of course too much for a one day trip, so it looks like you will be camping out. Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Wallkill River typically tend to be in the 70's. Through the moonlight hours it's usually in the 60's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Wallkill River.
