The starting location is a reasonable drive from Amsterdam, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The wonderful New York scenery and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's good length for a morning trip. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Betty Brock junction

During the winter highs are in the 20's with temperatures at West Kill River dipping down into the 10's through winter nights. Doney Hollow is a nice spot to pop by close by.
