The starting location is a short drive from Kingston, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The wonderful Ulster County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. There are no other sections to paddle along Woodland Creek than the Woodland Valley Campground to Esopus River section. This section of
Woodland Creek in New York is 5.2 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New York are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of
rivers here are not for beginners. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. The Catskill Mountains scenery is wonderful. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
Briefly about the general area: A normal amount of precipitation falls here at Woodland Creek; through May this area sees the most rain; the driest of the months is February. Woodland Creek is right next door to
Woodland Valley which is beyond doubt worth visiting, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Woodland Creek; Phoenicia Trail is a fine local trail. Just can't get enough of the Catskill Mountains. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Willow Trail. Summertime at Woodland
Creek arrives with high temperatures in the 70's, and the overnight is rather colder of course, mostly in the 50's. Through the winter this place gets highs in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Woodland Creek.
