  The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Mount Airy, as you can see on the road map further down. The beautiful scenery of Surry County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. The Route 1772 to Route 2080 section is the only paddling section along Ararat River. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so better not forget that many runs in this state are very easy. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature
    are great reasons to come. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your camping stuff too. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. You
can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The Route 1772 to Route 2080 stretch of Ararat River is 21.5 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater.

Briefly about the general area:
Ararat River gets lots of water; the month of May is the wettest with most of the rain, and January meanwhile is the driest month.
The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Ararat River. During the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 50's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 40's while Ararat River overnight low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 20's.
