The Forrest Road to Lynchburg Road section of Big Creek in North Carolina is 3.5 miles long and is a class II-III(IV) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The campgrounds here at Big Creek are pretty good. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The average North Carolina whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends     to be easier to run than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good rivers for that around here. Big Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Forrest Road to Lynchburg Road section is the only one. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Winston-Salem, as you can see on the road map further down. Briefly about the general area: Take a hike on the Moores Knob Trail, and hiking along the Cascade Trail is pleasant fun. Through the months of summer here at Big Creek, high temperatures typically get into the 80's, and during the night it cools down   to the 60's. High temperatures throughout the wintertime are normally in the 40's; during the dark hours in the wintertime at Big Creek temperatures fall to the 20's. Big Creek is a wet location that gets a lot of precipitation; the month with most of the rain is July; the driest month of the year is January.
