If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside North Carolina you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. The wonderful North Carolina scenery and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.     Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. This is the only paddling section along Big Creek. This is a somewhat short section so no need to bring snacks. The Forrest Road to Lynchburg Road section of Big Creek in North Carolina is 3.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III(IV) section. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Big Creek during the summer are in the 80's while nighttime lows are commonly in the 60's. All through the winter highs are ordinarily   in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Big Creek. Big Creek is a wet place that gets much rainfall; July is the wettest month with most rain while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Good hiking is available along the Moores Knob Trail, and there's magnificent hiking along the Cascade Trail.
