The beautiful scenery of North Carolina and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. The Big Hungry Road to Green section of Big Hungry Creek in Henderson/ Polk County is 1.3 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV section. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The starting location
is a short drive from Asheville, as you can see on the road map further down. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. Big Hungry Creek doesn't
have a lot of paddling sections, the Big Hungry Road to Green section is the only one. The river winds through the Blue Ridge Mountains and you get great scenery. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is an extremely short stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over.

are in the 80's with night lows in the 60's. High temperatures during the winter are normally in the 40's with temperatures at Big Hungry Creek dipping down into the 20's all through winter nights. Big Hungry Creek mostly gets a good deal of rainfall; most of the rain falls throughout March, and January on the other hand is the driest.
