North Carolina whitewater - Big Hungry Creek, Blue Ridge Mountains, Henderson/ Polk County Henderson/ Polk county, Big Hungry Road to Green section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III-IV     1.3 miles   The Big Hungry Road to Green section of Big Hungry Creek is 1.3 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The put-in location is a short drive from Asheville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The beautiful scenery of North Carolina and the beautiful way the water current moves down     the stream attract people from near and far. There are no other stretches to paddle along Big Hungry Creek than the Big Hungry Road to Green stretch. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. This stretch is very short so no need to bring snacks. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside North Carolina you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. The wild scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains is great. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. Big Hungry Creek is a pretty wet place frequently with a great deal of rainfall;   March is the wettest month with most rain while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Throughout the summertime months at Big Hungry Creek highs are mostly in the 80's while nighttime lows are frequently in the 60's. For the period of the wintertime highs are typically in the 40's, and overnight lows in the 20's for Big Hungry Creek.
